Let’s Talk, Iowa! is a platform for investigation, analysis, and advocacy. We bridge institutional policy and community reality. To maintain integrity, our "Three-Pillar" framework distinguishes between investigative work, expert opinion, and political commentary.
Our investigative segments are dedicated to the objective pursuit of truth. We adhere to the following standards:
Evidence-Based: Every core claim is grounded in public records, state-substantiated findings (such as Iowa HHS reports), or multiple corroborated sources.
Verification: We verify clinical and legal facts before broadcast. We distinguish between "substantiated allegations" and "unverified community reports."
Neutral Inquiry: During the investigative phase, we provide all named parties—including government agencies and healthcare facilities—a "Right of Reply" to ensure a balanced record.
We provide expert analysis to help our audience navigate complex systems.
Fair Comment: Our opinions are protected under the "Fair Comment" doctrine. We offer insights based on the disclosed facts presented in our investigative reporting.
Integrity of Interpretation: While our perspective is our own, it is never based on provable falsehoods. We use the clinical and state record as the foundation for our conclusions.
As a platform for change, we exercise our rights under Article I, § 7 of the Iowa Constitution to provide social and political commentary.
Legislative Advocacy: We openly advocate for policy solutions (such as Nina’s Law) to address the systemic failures uncovered in our reporting.
Institutional Accountability: We use our platform to hold elected officials and state-funded institutions accountable to the citizens of Iowa.
Clarity of Intent: We clearly distinguish advocacy segments from neutral reporting so our audience understands when we are presenting news versus when we are calling for action.
Let’s Talk, Iowa! operates under the protections of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, the Iowa Reporter Shield, and the Iowa Uniform Public Expression Protection Act (Anti-SLAPP). We are guided by the professional standards of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ).
